4. Methodology, learning tasks, syllabus and resources
4.1. Methodological overview
The teaching methodology proposed in the Legal and Bioethics Dentistry course to help the student achieve the expected learning results is based on:
Participatory master class:
This teaching methodology within the Legal and Bioethics Dentistry subject is aimed at locating the student in each of the subjects that the subject consists of. It allows to present each topic from a global perspective, placing it in the field of the subject and in the whole program that is developed in the Degree in Dentistry. This makes it easy to integrate your content with the content of other subjects.
The objective of this method within the Legal and Bioethical Dentistry subject is to provide condensed information adapted to the student's level. By carrying out a selection task on each of the topics of the most important aspects for the student, analysis and synthesis of information that comes from different origins; usually difficult for him to access. With this work, the aim is to facilitate the understanding of the main concepts of the subject and a critical assessment of each of the topics exercised by the teacher as a result of the knowledge acquired in the study and through professional experience and also by students from their own perspective.
To facilitate the presentation of the topics, auxiliary resources such as Power-point presentations or teacher's notes are used and that the use of these resources avoids the student's time consumption in copying tasks.
In addition, it can be highly positive in order to speed up the exhibition, as long as the projected material is accessible to the student for further detailed study.
Another objective to be achieved within the master class in Legal Dentistry and Bioethics is to encourage student participation in class at all times, interpolating questions during the presentation or commenting on press articles or radio and television news related to the topic to show its social interest.
With the master class, only the objectives related to the transmission of knowledge and understanding are covered, not being able to achieve those of analysis and application of the knowledge acquired. To achieve these objectives, the Seminars and the autonomous work of the student are used in the subject of Legal Dentistry and Bioethics.
Practicing:
This teaching methodology is essential in a discipline such as Legal and Bioethical Dentistry, whose knowledge and preparation is achieved when one is able to understand and solve particular cases using the general concepts, seen in the master classes.
Its main purpose within the subject is to teach the student to reason with the criteria and contents seen in the theoretical classes, to make him apply the acquired knowledge, thus contributing to his settlement.
These practical classes are given reasonably coordinated with those of theory. The exercises are representative of the topics, varied and formative. Certain exercises can be used to develop new aspects of knowledge that have not been previously explained. Learning is organized by working first individually on the practical case to later discuss the solutions or conclusions reached by the whole group.
Students should attempt to resolve the issues at their discretion, addressing the difficulties of each before their resolution is explained.
This allows them to build their own learning in a context that brings them closer to reality. The teacher's role will be that of guide and moderator.
Apart from the cases prepared by the teacher, students will be able to raise cases on aspects or issues that concern or interest them to work on them following this method.
Autonomous work of the student:
Preparation of weekly assignments proposed by the teacher.
Tutorials:
Their objective is to solve the doubts that the student may have during the study of the subject, as well as to orient and guide the student in carrying out the practical cases and documents that they must carry out. Tutorials can be by email, telematics or face-to-face depending on the availability of students and teacher.
